The biggest problem is that in Bay County you have the owners of approximately 60% - 70% of the land are  claiming and recieving "AG" "Agricultural Classification for Property Tax purposes" and paying less then  $2.00  per acre in Property Taxes! 

Most of the "$2.00 per acre  land"  is owned by large  Corporate land Owners who are not even from Bay County, most are from other counties, states and some are from other Countries!  

This of course  contributes almost nothing to Bay  County's  Property Tax income to pay for the essential services of Bay County "The School System, Law Enforcement, Road dept etc" That Bay County DESPERATELY NEEDS!

 The "bottom line"  is that they own almost all the land and they pay almost nothing in Property Taxes!  Like the  "good ole"  days of  slavery in the South?

 The purpose of the Florida Greenbelt Law was to make it profitable for Florida Farmers to farm the land, NOT to allow Developers and land speculators from other areas to evade Property Taxes and BANKRUPT the community!

 THE SOLUTION IS SIMPLE! 

ALL YOU EVER HAD TO DO  IS TO GET THOSE  PEOPLE AND CORPORATIONS TO PAY THEIR TAXES LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE!  

AND Put an END  To $2.00  per acre!

 

Some of the Biggest Land Owners are:

 ST Joe company  "which has now converted to a Development Company"

Profundus Holdings  "a foreign Corporation with some directors from Germany"

Northern Trust  "property owned by the  Knight Family"

Plum Creek Land  "Development Company"

Bear Creek land  "Privately held Corporation"

NEXT is size,  would be a collection of  "good ole boys"  who despise paying Property Taxes on their MASSIVE land holdings and would much prefer that all the  "other" land owners and the "Beach People"  Pay ALL the Property Taxes in Bay County! They DON"T care if the County goes Bankrupt,  the Schools are NOT funded or the Law Enforcement get cut or the roads remain UNPAVED!

In total you currently have over 1100  parcels  "some as large as 640 acres"  claiming  "AG"  and paying less the  $2.00  per acre in Property Tax!  This tax break is "determined"  by the Bay County Property Appraiser Dan Sowell, who pays -0- Property Tax on his own personal waterfront Home! 

 It is estimated that Bay County is losing  $75 MILLION  per year in these tax givaways!

This system of taxation, guarantees perpetual poverty for the majority of Bay County residents!

This problem could be very easily fixed by throwing out the current Property Appraiser and electing a "Peoples Representative"  who would NOT allow this Corporate welfare system!

MOST citizens don't know it but,  this ENTIRE  "Perpetual Poverty Issue"  is right in the hands of the Bay County Property Appraiser!  Please tell them!
